Cosby Elementary School Additions + Renovations

Nestled within a beautiful site with views into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Cosby Elementary School Project is a renovation/addition of the original school building and twenty year-old addition. In addition to the obvious programmatic needs, the Project endeavors to create a separate identity for the K-8 portion of the school, as well as link the currently detached pieces of that program together with an enclosed connector.

Being a K-12 elementary/ high school, the new construction includes a dedicated entry to the south for the K-8 portion of the school to aid in wayfinding and security. This new entry connects to a new gymnasium with ancillary spaces, as well as to an enlarged administration suite comprised of both new construction and significant renovations to the existing play gym. Other minor interior improvements for a portion of the existing building such as new finishes and new LED lighting are also included. The Project is approximately 15,000 square feet of new building and 9,400 square feet of renovated space.

Significant improvements to a challenging site are also part of the Project, including upgraded parking, vehicular circulation, site drainage, and site lighting. New canopy structures will connect the improved site and parking to the entry points of the elementary school, including a new secure vestibule at the main entry.
