As we continue ringing in the New Year, Lewis Group Architects is proud to celebrate our 40th anniversary as the premier commercial architecture firm in Knoxville & Cleveland. Four decades is a tremendous accomplishment and one that could not have been achieved without the support of our amazing Clients. Throughout the year, we will be taking a look back through our vast array of projects and showcasing many of your projects that help better the communities we have grown to know and love.
Starting in 1982, founder Jerry W. Lewis, AIA saw the impact that the architecture of a school building had on those within its’ walls – from the students, to the faculty, to the entire community. From these experiences grew his passion for creating designs with the entire school in mind. Even now, LGA keeps these same principles at the forefront of our minds when working with each educational client. Our goal is to create a space that houses knowledge, promotes learning, and facilitates the education of each and every student that passes through its’ hallowed halls.
It is no surprise, then, that LGA’s first project involved schools. Back in the early ’80s, the former Knoxville City Schools were ordered by the TN Fire Marshal’s Office to fix fire-code-related deficiencies for 25 of their school buildings. Though this task seemed daunting, Knoxville City Schools chose to put their faith, and the safety of their students, in the hands of LGA.
