Hardin Valley Academy

The architectural design of the new Hardin Valley Academy in Knox County celebrates education. The Knox County School System, committed to providing excellence in education through the Great Schools Partnership, worked closely with Lewis Group Architects to develop a floor plan and identity for the new school that creates an atmosphere of excitement about learning. The comprehensive high school features a double story atrium designed with an abundance of natural light and an expressive structural system. This atrium serves as a collector for students, teachers, administrators, and visitors. Its funnel shape places the focus on the heart of the school, the academic spaces.

The versatile classroom plan can allow the school to operate as 4 separate academies, if desired, in the future. With a capacity of 2,000 students in grades 9-12, the school is approximately 275,000 sq. ft. The facility houses a 695-seat auditorium and a 2,100-seat gymnasium. The media center is centrally located near the core academic areas in the two-story classroom wing. Also included are music, fine arts, and complete outdoor athletic facilities. The school shares its campus with the Hardin Valley Elementary School.
