Cempa Community Care

Cempa Community Care, located in Chattanooga, TN is expanding their current scope of services into existing buildings on the same city block. As part of this growth, Lewis Group Architects has provided facility assessments for 1960’s buildings, master planning for the Cempa campus, and exterior and interior design services for the first building to be renovated for patient care services.

The first construction project will include 22,500 sf of exterior and interior renovations to the building at 1010 E 3^rd Street, adjacent to Cempa’s current clinical spaces. In addition to increasing the number of patient care spaces that Cempa currently has, this project provides numerous building repairs, systems upgrades, ADA, life-safety, and energy code compliance upgrades, security improvements, site improvements, and enhanced corporate branding to an aging building with poor current street presence.

LGA has integrated the structure and layout of the existing building and its renovations, especially the new facade feature on 3rd Street, with the spatial program of the expanded clinics and pharmacy to create a one-stop location for delivery of patient care that provides a new image for Cempa and improved street presence for the building. The program includes a primary care clinic on one side of the upper level, an infectious disease clinic on the other side of the upper level, and some shared functions between such as lobby and waiting, patient check-in, billing, a lab, some administrative and staff areas, as well as a pharmacy with a new drive-thru pick up window. The lower level will include a dental clinic with imaging, operatories, procedure room, and other related spaces on one side and shell space for future expansion on the other side.
