Melanie Doss, PhD has been appointed by Governor Lee to the Tennessee Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners as a Registered Interior Designer for a 4-year term which began September 1, 2020.Her responsibilities to the Board are to serve as Chair of the Interior Design Committee for Review of Applications and she is a voting member of all Standing Committees.

“I am honored to receive this appointment by the Governor and am pleased to represent the interior design profession in the State of Tennessee,” Dr. Doss shared.

Melanie received her PhD in Consumer Science and Marketing in 2017, a Master of Science in Interior Design in 1986, and Bachelor of Science in Interior Design in 1984, all from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (her blood runs PMS151).

Her design career began in the Architectural Branch of TVA. She then joined McCarty Holsaple McCarty as their first interior designer in 1987. After a number of years with MHM, Melanie formed Doss Design Associates in 1993 and has since partnered with major architecture and engineering firms in the southeast to design award-winning projects in higher education, healthcare, senior living, corporate design, airports, and industrial facilities.

Her current role is as Senior Project Manager at Lewis Group Architects. She has been with the firm since February 2014 as Lead Interior Designer. Her proficiencies include space planning, finish selection, Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment procurement, and project management.

In addition to a successful professional career, Melanie has been an educator for 30+ years. Her experience in the college classroom includes Adjunct Professor at UT Knoxville, UT Chattanooga, Pellissippi State Community College, and East Tennessee State University.

Melanie is a native Knoxvillian and is married to Chad L. Young, a Senior Art Director at Tombras advertising agency. Melanie and Chad have two wonderful children, Adam (25) and Sarah (21), who are both pursuing careers and service in healthcare and make them both very proud.
